A good news for Indian textile industry which will help the complete supply chain is that the area under cotton cultivation has reached a record high of 12.25 million hectares while sowing is still continuing in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka leading the production to a new high. According to industry experts, the record production would not lead to a price decline problem for farmers. Further, the experts do not foresee any glut in cotton and prices may have fallen but momentum in mills is picking up. Domestic cotton consumption is likely to increase to 3.05-3.1 million bales (a bale is 170 kg), up from 29 million bales in the earlier cotton year (October-September).
