Due to an increased demand for apparel and leather items at competitive prices, exports from Bangladesh to Japan increased by 14.90 per cent to US $ 862.08 million in 2013-14 fiscal year from US $ 750.27 million in the last fiscal. The strengthening trade ties are displayed by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s two-day visit to Bangladesh. According to official data Bangladesh exported apparels worth US $ 572.27 million to Japan in 2013-14 fiscal year and last year the figure was US $ 478.49 million. Japan has a US $ 35 billion market of apparels and Chinese exporters hold 80 per cent share of this huge market.
