
Close on the heels of a meeting with the Iraqi trade chamber, the delegation of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) recently met with Khaled Battal Najm Abdullah al-Jughifi, the Minister of Industry and Minerals in the Iraqi Government to discuss the issue of enhancing trade and investment.
This was underlined in a press release issued by the BGMEA.
The BGMEA delegation included prominent members such as Mohammed Nasir, former Vice President (Finance) of BGMEA; Nazrul Islam, former Director of BGMEA; Sharmeen Hassan Tithi, Director of Giant Group; Mohammed Shohel, Managing Director of Bangla Poshak Ltd.; Mohd Shawket Hossain, Director of Bangla Poshak Ltd.; and Nisher Khan, Managing Director of Banika Fashion Ltd.
The meeting was also attended by Fazlul Bari, the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Iraq, and Ahmed Abdul-Jabbar Ali Al-Karim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals for Planning Affairs.
During the discussions, both sides delved into various topics of mutual interest, including potential areas for cooperation, the business environment, and trade and investment opportunities between Bangladesh and Iraq even as they emphasised the importance of fostering closer ties through reciprocal visits by trade delegations from both countries, with the aim of identifying promising sectors for trade and investment.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan provided the Iraqi Minister with valuable insights into the investment opportunities available in Bangladesh, coupled with enhanced infrastructure to support the expansion of trade and investment. He extended a warm invitation to Iraqi businessmen to visit Bangladesh, offering them the chance to gain a deeper understanding of the country, its business climate, and its export products.
He also highlighted the remarkable progress in Bangladesh’s readymade garment sector, with a particular emphasis on its enhanced capabilities to offer a wide array of apparel items, including high-value products.
