Bangladesh’s apex garment makers’ body – the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has called upon the European Union (EU) to extend the trade benefits that it (Bangladesh) enjoys as a least developed country (LDC) under the GSP scheme for six more years, rather than three.
This was underlined in a press communiqué by the garment makers’ body issued recently even as it argued such an extension would aid Bangladesh in graduating smoothly from the least developed country (LDC) category and continuing the country’s development journey in the years to come.
The President of BGMEA, Faruque Hassan, reportedly underlined the same during his recent with member of the European Parliament Valérie Hayer, at the BGMEA Complex in Dhaka even as the BGMEA chair also discussed with Valérie various issues including that of LDC graduation and its implications on Bangladesh’s trade and economy, bilateral trade, the current situation of the RMG industry in Bangladesh, its prospects and challenges going ahead, etc.
