Bangladesh’s overdependence on readymade garment exports could prove to be barrier towards sustaining the economic growth in next 10 years.
This was underlined by a research report.
As per the report titled Bangladesh Economic Update-2022, published by Lightcastle Partners, the upcoming few years would be monumental as Bangladesh will finally make the transition from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status in 2026 even as it added fresh challenges will emerge as Bangladesh will cease to benefit from various trade benefits accrued to the LDCs.
The report further suggested that the Government come up with policy support and facilitate investments for diversifying the export basket while also adding that compared to the previous decades, Bangladesh’s export basket has diversified with the addition of consumer durables, active pharmaceutical ingredients, software, frozen fish, mobile phones, marine vessels and agricultural products.
Bangladesh is now highly integrated into the global supply chain for both exports and imports for such diversification, it further added.
It may be mentioned here that LightCastle Partners is a business consulting firm in Bangladesh creating data-driven opportunities for growth and impact, which unveiled the report at the end of September 2022.
