A major apparel export stronghold for Bangladesh, the country’s garment export to the USA increased by 24.11 per cent in the January-August period of 2021 and reached US $ 4.32 billion from that of US $ 3.48 billion in the same period of 2020 even as July witnessed garments exports to US growing by 35.2 per cent, while August registered a minimal 4 per cent growth as production in factories remained suspended for 10-15 days during July due to coronavirus restriction as well as Eid-ul-Azha holidays in Bangladesh.
Media reports maintained this while adding that as per the US Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel data, in terms of volume, Bangladesh’s apparel export to the US in the first eight months of 2021 grew by 32.76 per cent from that of the corresponding period of 2020 even as apparel exporters in Bangladesh maintained business in USA started rebounding thanks to massive COVID-19 vaccinations while also underlining had factories in Bangladesh not remained closed for 10 days in July, apparel export growth could have been even more in August.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, BGMEA Vice-President Shahidullah Azim, reportedly, maintained apparel export to USA from Bangladesh would increase further in the coming months thanks to increased number of orders being placed by the buyers while adding apparel export to the US in August registered a minimal growth due to factory closure in Bangladesh in July.
