
To ensure proper housing facility to the workers involved in the readymade garment industry of Bangladesh, State Minister for Labour and Employment, M Mujibul Haque Chunnu has reportedly called upon the garment factory owners to extend helping hands to workers to resolve their housing problem and ensure other facilities, as per media reports.

“Increase in wages and allowances have empowered garment workers socially. But they are facing problems for house rent hike and rise in others expenditures,” Haque reportedly said while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled ‘Garment Industry and Empowerment of Workers’, organised by Nari Udyog Kendra in Dhaka recently.
Underlining the efforts of the Government which enabled the workers live in dignity, the Minister referred to the rise in wages and other facilities, which he said has empowered the garment workers socially to a great extent.

Huqe also reportedly stressed on the need of increasing female leaderships in trade unions while adding most of the garment workers are women and the women themselves will have to talk about their problems.
