In a significant meeting, Timor-Leste’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, discussed the potential for enhanced bilateral trade and investment with Kutubuddin Ahmed, the Honorary Consul of Timor-Leste in Bangladesh.
The discussions centered around the promising avenues for cooperation, particularly in the garment and textile sectors, where Bangladesh has established itself as a global leader. Kutubuddin Ahmed, a prominent figure in the Bangladeshi ready-made garment (RMG) industry and former president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), emphasised the importance of fostering partnerships that could benefit both nations.
During the meeting, the Timor-Leste delegation urged Ahmed to leverage his expertise and connections to promote business investment and trade growth between the two countries. Ahmed responded positively, outlining the vast opportunities available for collaboration in industries such as textiles, garment manufacturing, real estate, and construction.
He highlighted that Bangladesh’s established garment sector could play a pivotal role in Timor-Leste’s economic development, providing a pathway for mutual benefits through enhanced bilateral trade and investment. As chairman of Sheltech Group and Envoy Textiles Ltd, Ahmed is well-positioned to facilitate these initiatives.
The focus on the garment industry underscores Bangladesh’s commitment to expanding its trade relationships and contributing to the economic progress of Timor-Leste through strategic partnerships.
