Known predominantly for basic apparels, as part of expansion plans, some high-value garment manufacturers in Bangladesh are investing in lingerie manufacturing even as they look to make the most of the opportunities in the global market in lingerie.
As per reports, amidst the rising global demand, at least 50 entrepreneurs have either set up new lingerie units or shifted to making such women’s clothing even as sister concern of Pran-RFL Group, Chorka Textile Ltd., has, reportedly, doubled its production capacity while Ananta Apparels, has alone, reportedly, invested around Taka 250 crore in a sophisticated lingerie unit in the port city of Chittagong.
Speaking to the media, the Managing Director of Ananta Apparels, Sharif Zahir, reportedly, maintained the company is planning to invest around Taka 400 crore to set up a synthetic fabric plant at the Mirsarai Economic Zone to produce fabrics and laces for its lingerie unit even as the President of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), Mohammad Ali Khokon, reportedly, underlined they are planning to set up a factory to produce lace for making lingerie.
Meanwhile, interacting with the media, BGMEA Vice-President Shahidullah Azim, reportedly, underlined if Bangladesh can grab a portion of the global lingerie market, the country’s exports will go up by at least several billion US dollars.
