Majority of garment factories in Bangladesh, especially the small and medium-sized ones, are challenged by acute shortage of workers, particularly skilled labourers, as the industry continues to recover from the fallouts of the pandemic.

Speaking to the media, industry insiders, reportedly, underlined they were incurring production losses and missing shipments due to a 15 to 20 per cent shortage of workers even as fears are abound, the labour crunch may hit the recovery of the industry, which, reportedly, continues to get decent work orders from the global buyers.
Industry people, reportedly, attributed the shortage of workers, especially the skilled labourers, to abrupt rise in demand and capacity augmentation by the garment makers in line with the same even as many workers not returning from their villages since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020 is also said to be responsible for it as well.
