
Bangladesh’s Mongla Port, which for the first time sent apparel shipments to Europe (Poland) recently following the launch of the Padma Bridge, is now gearing up to handle exports from the country in a big way.
Media reports claimed this adding Dhaka-based garment makers are likely to prefer Mongla over Chittagong Port to send their shipments as Mongla Port is much closer to Dhaka (170 km) after the opening of the Padma Bridge comrade to Chittagong (260 km).
Reports further added move is on to introduce modern container and cargo handling equipment at Mongla Port to enhance the port’s capacity and achieve a double-digit operational growth in the near future even as Mongla Port Authority is also working to materialise a project for installation of required machinery and equipment, following the completion of which, cargo handling capacity at Mongla Port will increase significantly.
