
Jeremy Bruer, Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Discussions on shared interests and prospective partnerships for seizing commercial possibilities between Australia and Bangladesh were productive and distinguished the meeting.
A variety of subjects were discussed by both parties, including ways to increase bilateral trade between the two countries. They also looked into ways to make alliances stronger and to increase trade and investment in high-potential regions.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan expressed his gratitude for the meeting’s discussion of Australia’s continued duty-free market access to Bangladesh in the post-LDC period.
The conversation also focused on Bangladesh’s great interest in the Australian market, particularly with regards to exporting high-end fashion items, and its potential to increase its imports of cotton and wool from Australia for its readymade garment industry.
Faruque Hassan, expressed his gratitude to Australia for continuing to assist Bangladesh in its growth. He emphasised how important Australia was as a potential market for Bangladeshi clothing exports. He also emphasised the value of building business ties between Bangladesh’s RMG sector and Australian raw material suppliers like cotton and wool.
BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Directors Abdullah HilRakib, Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan, Neela Hosna Ara, Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Press, Publication and Publicity Shovon Islam, Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on RSC Nafis-Ud-Doula, and Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Trade Fair Mohammed Kamal Uddin attended the meeting.
Mahbubur Rahman, CEO of HSBC Bangladesh; Joshua Gacutan, Second Secretary (Economic); and Nitol Dewan, Trade and Economic Development Manager at the Australian High Commission, were also present at the meeting held at BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka.
