
Underlining the huge contributions of the garment industry towards the socio-economic development of the country and uplift of the general masses, Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi mentioned how the industry has changed the fate of grassroots women even as he put the number of such women whose fate have been changed by the sector at 3 million.
He, reportedly, made this observation participating at a recent event organised by the BGMEA to celebrate the 50 years of the country’s independence.
Faruque Hassan, who is President of the garment makers’ body, presided over the said event while Barrister Shehrin Salam Oishee and Md. Mohiuddin Rubel (BGMEA Directors) conducted the programme, which was attended by all the stakeholders including ex-BGMEA Presidents even as Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh ITO Naoki, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bangladesh Mahbub ur Rahman and Executive Director of Policy Research Institute (PRI) Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur were also present.
Underlining Bangladesh has emerged as a model of development globally under the prudent and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the BGMEA President maintained Bangladesh has transitioned from one of the poorest counties to one of the fastest growing economies globally over the span of last 50 years.
