Close on heels of an Italy-based shipping company starting direct shipping service between Bangladesh’s Chittagong Port and Italy, three more European nations, namely Portugal, Denmark and Slovenia, have expressed interest to start direct shipment with Chittagong.
Media reports maintained this adding Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Winnie Estrup Petersen recently held a meeting with authorities of Chittagong Port to discuss in this regard.
“…the Ambassador discussed with the port authorities the feasibility of starting direct cargo shipments in the future,” reportedly, maintained Secretary of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Md. Omar Farooq speaking to the media, and added, “Portugal and Slovenia have also shown interest in transporting goods. The two countries will soon discuss these issues virtually with the CPA.”
The port authorities in Bangladesh further, reportedly, added European Union member countries use each other’s territory and there are opportunities to transport goods from one country to another by road, while adding if cargo reaches any of the European country from Chittagong Port, the same can reach other destinations within Europe.
