The ZDHC Foundation, a sustainable chemical management initiative, has introduced a new Air Emissions Module aimed at helping fashion brands and suppliers reduce emissions.
The tool allows businesses to assess and mitigate volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and greenhouse gases (GHGs), in line with ZDHC’s Air Emissions Guidelines. It applies the Potential to Emit (PTE) methodology for VOCs and incorporates tracking for scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions.
ZDHC said the module enables brands to evaluate suppliers based on their emission performance, while suppliers can calculate PTE VOC and GHG emissions using existing data, avoiding costly testing. The tool also highlights chemicals with the highest VOC emissions for potential phase-out and provides comparable scope 1 and 2 GHG data to support engagement strategies.
The foundation added that the module gives brands a framework to monitor progress against internal environmental targets or industry initiatives such as the UN Fashion Charter for Climate Action. Suppliers can also benchmark performance, take corrective measures, and track improvements over time.
ZDHC said the Air Emissions Module is designed to move users “from measurement to immediate action” through a structured adoption process.
