Workers at a Tusuka Group manufacturing facility in Konabari, Gazipur, continued their protest and work stoppage for the second consecutive day on Sunday, demanding a revision of the wage structure, settlement of pending dues, and an end to layoffs, among other issues.
Despite the factory authorities issuing a notice yesterday affirming their willingness to meet the workers’ demands, the employees announced their decision to persist with the protests and work stoppage.
According to police and local sources, the workers initially halted work this morning in support of their demands but resumed work later in the day. However, around 2 pm on Sunday, they resumed their protest, refusing to work further. The factory closed for the day at 5 pm, and the workers left the premises. Subsequently, the factory management issued a notice at the gate, stating they would address the workers’ concerns.
The workers are calling for the full implementation of the BGMEA wage grading system, exemption from deductions of general holidays during Eid vacation, organisation of an annual picnic, an end to favouritism, payment for leave based on the date of joining, settlement of all dues within this month, and a halt to layoffs, among other demands.
Kona Bari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Salauddin Ahmed said police personnel have been deployed in front of the factory to monitor the situation and prevent any untoward incidents.
