
A visiting delegation of the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament, which is in Bangladesh currently, has expressed concerns over labour rights situation in the country as well as the different sets of rules for workers in export processing zones (EPZs) and outside the EPZs.
Media reports claimed this adding the visiting EU delegation, reportedly, underlined this during a recent meeting with leaders of BGMEA, which is the apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Executive President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Mohammad Hatem, reportedly, said the members of the European Parliament raised issues pertaining to labour rights, human rights, EPZ labour law, backlog of cases at labour courts and living wage for the workers in the meeting.
