The Resident Representative of UNDP Bangladesh, Stefan Liller, recently held a meeting with Faruque Hassan, who serves as the President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at the BGMEA office in Uttara, Dhaka.
Also present during this meeting were Sarder M Asaduzzaman, the Assistant Resident Representative, and Debashis Roy, a Private Sector Partnership Specialist.
The primary focus of their discussions revolved around exploring potential collaboration opportunities between UNDP and BGMEA aimed at promoting sustainability, enhancing skills development, and ensuring the well-being of workers in the readymade garment industry of Bangladesh.
Additionally, they delved into the important matter of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) reporting by garment factories.
Faruque Hassan, the President of BGMEA, underscored the garment industry’s unwavering commitment to pursuing sustainable growth, aligning with the Strategic Sustainability Vision 2030 set forth by BGMEA.
He also shed light on the industry’s ongoing initiatives to adopt a circular economy approach, thereby enhancing its overall sustainability. President Faruque Hassan expressed optimism that UNDP would continue to lend its support to the industry in its journey towards achieving sustainability objectives while preserving its competitive edge.
