US premium fashion brand Tommy Hilfiger has become the latest partner to join the consortium led by Finnish fibre technology company Spinnova, marking a further step in the brand’s efforts to expand the use of next-generation sustainable materials.
Backed by Fashion for Good, Spinnova introduced the consortium model earlier this year to encourage fashion brands to support the scaling of its flagship fibre technology. The initiative is designed to accelerate commercial adoption by enabling brands to collaborate closely with the fibre producer and integrate the material across a wider range of applications.
The Spinnova fibre is produced from wood pulp or waste streams and is fully biodegradable and recyclable. The process does not involve harmful chemicals, positioning the material as a lower-impact alternative to conventional textile fibres.
Through the partnership, Tommy Hilfiger will gain access to the Spinnova fibre and plans to explore its use across multiple product categories, according to the company. The move is expected to support the brand’s broader sustainability ambitions by increasing the share of innovative materials within its collections.
Pedro Brito, senior commercial manager at Spinnova, said the company was pleased to welcome Tommy Hilfiger to the consortium. He said the brand’s commitment to piloting sustainable materials closely aligned with Spinnova’s mission to scale the availability of textiles made using its fibre technology.
The partnership underscores growing interest among global fashion brands in fibre innovation as the industry seeks scalable solutions to reduce its environmental footprint.
