The Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA) and Fairtrade India collaborated to host a session on carbon emissions monitoring and reduction tactics, which is a noteworthy step towards addressing environmental problems.
The purpose of the event was to help Tiruppur’s MSMEs (micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises) comply with international guidelines for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
About 250 exporters attended the course, which was named Carbon Emissions Monitoring and Effective Solutions. Its main goal was to give participants information on how to classify greenhouse gases, how to calculate them, and how to create goals for reducing emissions.
M. Anand, a TEA Executive Member and the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Branding and Sustainability, revealed intentions to create a Sustainability Clinic. This initiative will offer finance and coaching to 50–60 MSME firms in Tiruppur. It will be formalised by an impending Memorandum of Understanding with Fair Trade India to create awareness among its members on the principles of green production and its practices. He added that the European Government has agreed to provide funds for this awareness-building exercise through Fair Trade India
The clinic wants to encourage eco-friendly habits like recycling water and using renewable energy. Together with other specialists, Abhishek Jani, CEO of Fairtrade India, offered comprehensive insights to assist regional companies in comprehending and putting into practice efficient carbon reduction plans.
Future import restrictions by the European Union on goods lacking the necessary environmental certificates are a contributing factor in the initiative.
This incident highlights the textile industry’s attempts to adjust to more stringent environmental laws and concerns, especially in view of the Paris Agreement’s aim of keeping global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
