Teijin Frontier, the fibre specialising company of the Teijin Group, recently launched a new sustainable stretch fabric, which is aimed at offering a 3D crimp structure.
Apart from the crimp feature, their new fabric is also designed to be airy, soft, and have the natural-looking uneven surface. This fabric, which the company plans on marketing to the sports and outdoor wear industry in the Fall/Winter 2026 season, also boasts elasticity, moisture-wicking, and quick-drying capabilities, in order to reduce stickiness caused by sweat.
With this fabric, the company also made a push towards sustainability by incorporating plant-based substances for the core yarn and recycled polyester for the sheath yarn.
This fabric was also engineered to tackle the limitations of the company’s earlier SOLOTEX fibres. The SOLOTEX fibre made from polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) did not align with the consumer’s demand of wanting a fabric with unique texture and comfort. As a result, the company used its PTT spinning and drawing technologies to manufacture side-by-side conjugate yarn. This yarn in turn formed a bond between two separate PTT polymers to achieve a lightweight effect with durable crimps, lending the yarn a superior stretchability.
With their specialised yarn processing, the core yarn was paired with high-multifilament polyester fibres to create a composite yarn with variations in crimp sizes. When woven into a high-density fabric, the result was an eco-friendly material with a light, soft, and textured surface.
The company also plans to expand the market for fabric by including it in the lifestyle apparel, innerwear, and broadly speaking fashion clothing. The sales goal pitched by the company in the fiscal year 2026 is 100,000 metres, which they intend to increase to 1m metres by 2029.
