As per a study conducted by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) recently, it has been found garment factories in Bangladesh that have implemented safety compliance measures as prescribed by Accord and Alliance have increased labour productivity even if workers’ efficiency continues to be on the higher end in the big compliant units.
Reports underlined this citing the findings of the BIDS study.
Presenting the findings of the study, BIDS research fellow Tahreen Tahrima Chowdhury reportedly stated although a positive effect of compliance on real variables (labour productivity and profit) and market access was expected, results suggest an significant impact only on labour productivity, even if the study has reportedly revealed impacts of compliance on profit and market access were not ‘significant’.
The BIDS Research Scholar was speaking at the second session of the two-day BIDS Research Almanac 2023, held in a hotel in the capital Dhaka recently.
