Researchers have always been fascinated by the properties of the spider silk, stronger than Kevlar, yet far more flexible with stretching ability up to 40% more than its normal length without breaking. Taking this fascination to the next level, the researchers have successfully created a rare textile made from the silk of more than a million wild spiders. The unique gold cloth weighing around 2.6 pounds has been created, using silk from female Golden Orb spiders collected in the highlands of Madagascar and is a result of five years and a team of 80 people collecting silk for the same each day.
The fibre doesn’t require dyeing, but is extremely thin and thus uses 24 spiders at the same time to get a thicker yarn, placed in 2 rows of 12, and then similarly with a 24 strand yarn in four rows, resulting in 96 strand yarn to create one single yarn. The efforts seemed to be paid off with the incredible beautiful cloth made of gold.
