As it releases its product resale app in France, Chinese fast fashion behemoth SHEIN plans to bring its SHEIN Exchange resale platform to Europe and the United Kingdom.
Users can buy and sell pre-owned SHEIN products on The SHEIN Exchange, an integrated online resale marketplace. The resale marketplace will gradually be made available to consumers in the UK and Germany after initially launching in France.
After the resale platform launches in the US in October 2022, SHEIN is expanding its exchange platform to France, Germany, and the UK. According to reports, the platform is still growing, with over 4.2 million US users signing up in 2023 and over 115,000 pre-owned things placed for sale by over 95,000 unique merchants.
The SHEIN Exchange, which can be accessed directly through the SHEIN app, intends to make the process of reselling products easier. With its intuitive layout, which instantly displays the user’s previous purchases along with a “sell” button for each, it makes it simple and quick to list products. In addition, customers can quickly browse and locate pre-owned things for sale by using the platform’s search and filter features.
“As a member of the World Circular Textiles Day community, we know that there is a lot of work to be done to achieve a fully circular textile future by 2050,” said Caitrin Watson, SHEIN’s Director of Sustainability, in a statement.
SHEIN’s findings support the launch of the reselling platform, SHEIN Exchange. 3,500 SHEIN customers surveyed in September 2023 in the US, Brazil, Mexico, the UK, France, and Germany indicated a strong desire to integrate circular practices into their everyday lives. Clothes donation and online peer-to-peer resale were the most popular ways found, indicating their top two choices for participating in the circular fashion ecosystem.
The results of the poll showed that the collective dedication of respondents from the UK, France, Germany, and Brazil to sustainability and circular fashion drove nearly half of them to buy used clothes online.
