On Sunday, 20th October, around 200 IFS Texwear ready-made garment (RMG) workers blocked the Chashara intersection in protest, calling for a number of perks, such as tiffin, yearly vacation, and night shift pay.
Around 2:30 PM, the protest got underway, seriously disrupting traffic on the vital highway that links Narayanganj to Dhaka, Munshiganj, and Chittagong. To control the situation, law enforcement officers—including army and police personnel—arrived on the area.
The workers and the factory management had discussions, according to Nazrul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station. Approximately half an hour later, the workers lifted the barricade after the management promised to meet their concerns.
The local media was told by an unnamed manufacturing executive that all workers’ pay are up to date. They did, however, imply that other forces might have started the demonstration. The official declared, “If any employee has unpaid bills, they will definitely be paid.”
The demonstration highlights persistent worries among RMG employees about their perks and rights, a problem that still affects the entire sector.
