Oeko-Tex, textile research and testing association, has updated its Oeko-Tex Standard 100 test criteria with tightened limit values for NPEO and OPEO, more stringent PFOA specifications, and further clarity on flame-retardant products. After a three-month transition period, new regulations will come into force on 1 April 2015, for all certifications. “With this further reduction, Oeko-Tex is once again contributing to the complete exclusion of NP and OP, as well as alkylphenol ethoxylates from textile production, which is goal-striven for the industry,” Oeko-Tex said. From April, the specifications for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in Oeko-Tex product classes I to IV must not exceed 1.0 microgram/sq. m. Additional updates include further clarity on flame-retardant products, the addition of formamide as a new test substance, and further colorants added to the prohibited list of possible carcinogenics.
