
Although, the apparel and textile trade is showing all the signs of flourishing in the near future, Pham Chi Lan, one of the country’s leading economists has urged the Vietnam’s authorities to consider restricting the number of textile and garment projects citing environmental concerns. Chi Lan was responding to reports that Binh Duong provincial authorities have recently received more than 200 applications for developing textile and garment projects in the province, prompting them to build an industrial zone reserved specifically for textile and garment projects. He went on to elaborate, “It is very costly to deal with environmental problems, which are unbearable for the local authorities,” as investors may not fulfil their commitments on environmental protection.
