Dozens of garment workers got injured outside the Chinese-owned Fu Yuen Garment Co Ltd. in the city of Yangon. Reportedly, the incident occurred on 15 October when a group of assailants attacked the garment workers with iron bars. The workers were on strike for weeks, demanding to reinstate the 30 sacked workers.
The workers, who have been making clothes for British fashion brand Joules, were sacked as their committee was campaigning for improving the working conditions of garment workers.
The workers said that they were attacked with the intent to destroy their committee and to threaten them to end the strike.
Dr Aung San Min, Hospital Head, said that 24 workers have been admitted, whereas 6 were being treated as in-patients.
Police meanwhile blamed the workers and said that the fight started when a group of workers urged those working inside the factory to join the strike.
No arrests have been made so far and no one from the factory too could be reached for comments.
