In order to address issues with the power supply, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered the formation of a committee that includes representatives from the energy and textiles departments to investigate the application of solar power in the textile industry.
In addition, he directed the Social Justice, Tribal Development, and Other Backward Classes Welfare Departments to establish a consistent standard for granting financial support to newly established cooperative spinning mills, stating that each department should provide extra funding for the spinning mills under its purview.
He presided over the textiles department’s review meeting, which was attended by senior executives from several ministries, Textiles Minister Sanjay Savkare, and Legislative Council member Amrish Patel.
According to CM Fadnavis, cooperative spinning mills should be modernised and graded before the interest subsidy program is extended. The reopening of closed mills in the state under the National Textile Corporation should be the subject of a report. Therefore, a proposal for the reopening of shuttered mills should be submitted to the Central Government.
The Integrated and Sustainable Textile Policy 2023-28 should be amended as needed. A policy for the recovery of government debts from cooperative spinning mills and cooperative power loom institutions should also be created. Additionally, all power looms in the state should have their registrations completed. CM Fadnavis directed that the renovation of the building used by the Silk Directorate in Pune and the construction of additional facilities be done right away in order to receive a no-objection certificate from the Maharashtra State Khadi Village Industries Board.
In addition, he examined a number of issues, including the establishment of a new Maharashtra State Textiles Development Corporation, the merger of the Textiles Commissionerate and the Silk Directorate to form the Textiles and Silk Commissionerate, the proposal to permit the sale of more land from cooperative spinning mills, the creation of a new scheme for lending money to spinning mills for rehabilitation, the action to increase the project report value of cooperative spinning mills from Rs. 80.90 crore (US $ 9.34 million) to Rs. 118 crore (US $ 13.62 million), and the District Silk Office’s permanent purchase of leased land from the Red Cross Society in Wai, Satara district.
