
The Labour Ministry of Bangladesh in a meeting held on 15 December (Tuesday) between labour leaders, representatives from Dragon Sweater and leaders of garment manufacturing organisations have reportedly resolved the long-standing dispute pertaining to wages.
Begum Monnujan Sufian, the State Minister for Labour and Employment, in her ministry office helped resolve the dispute between authorities of Dragon Sweater Limited and its employees over the issue of salaries and allowances, during the Tuesday’s meeting.
As per media reports, proprietor of Dragon Sweater Md. Abdul Kuddus, Senior Vice-President of BKMEA Mohammad Hatem, BGMEA Director ANM Saifuddin, Secretary to Ministry of Labour and Employment KM Abdus Salam, Additional Secretary to Ministry of Labour and Employment Dr. Rejaul Haque, amongst others, were present in the meeting.
The State Minister for Labour and Employment reportedly formed a committee comprising representatives from Government bodies, labour organisations and garment manufacturing organisations on 1 December to settle the dispute after the Directorate of Labour and officials from the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) tried to unsuccessfully resolve the disputes between employees of Dragon Sweater and the factory authorities as no consensus could be reached.
So, after the committee formed under the directive of the State Minister for Labour and Employment submitted its report, Labour Ministry took the necessary steps to settle the issue in light of labour laws.
