The Sustainable Environment & Ecological Development Society (SEEDS) and the H&M Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to revolutionising the fashion business, have joined forces to improve resilience in Indian villages that are at risk of natural disasters.
The primary goal of this three-year project from the H&M Foundation, which is funded by a US $ 0.68 million investment, is to strengthen communities in India’s Assam and Uttar Pradesh states that are at risk from natural catastrophes and the effects of climate change.
The partnership uses a multi-phase approach that begins with relief and emergency response, moves into rehabilitation and reconstruction, and ends with resilience and sustainable development.
Through timely relief delivery and ongoing recovery support, the program is intended to address the unique needs of communities affected by disasters. In addition, it places a strong emphasis on inclusivity, community empowerment, and the effective use of resources while preserving continuous monitoring and evaluation.
An estimated 250,000 people in the two states are expected to benefit from the H&M Foundation investment.
A sizeable amount of the budget is devoted to recovery and preparedness efforts, even though some is set aside for emergency relief, which includes funding for basic needs like food, water, shelter, and medical supplies.
Through this interaction, government agencies, non-profit organisations, stakeholders from the commercial sector, and community members will collaborate and benefit from local expertise.
