In order to keep up with the most recent advancements in the textile industry, the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is currently in the process of revising its standards.
The update, which occurs every three years, aims to keep GOTS current, efficient, and in line with the most recent legal requirements as well as contemporary frameworks for social and environmental responsibility.
GOTS Version 8.0 and its Implementation Manual preliminary draft will be available for public review until 7th March. The draft is accessible on the GOTS Revision website, where users can read it and leave feedback.
The 25 members of the GOTS Standard Revision Committee, which includes representatives from all areas of the textile value chain—fiber production and processing, manufacturing, labour, traders, retailers, consumers, the post-consumer sector, civil society, and professional and technical services—will review and discuss suggestions and comments.
In July, a second public consultation will be held. For openness and future participation, a summary of the comments and their results will be posted on the GOTS revision homepage.
In an era of changing rules and growing public awareness of the need for a more sustainable textile sector, Global Standard is looking forward to the next era of GOTS, stated Claudia Kersten and Rahul Bhajekar, Global Standard managing directors, in a joint statement.
