The apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), recently signed a memorandum of understanding with German international cooperation agency GIZ and Particip GmbH, which is a German independent consultancy company, to strengthen the capacity of garment factory committees.
According to media reports, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, Senior Adviser of Particip GmbH Md. Manjur Morshed and GIZ Project Coordinator of Sustainability in Textile and Leather Sector (STILE) Dr. Michael Klode, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective entities even as the signing ceremony was held at the BGMEA office in capital Dhaka.
Under the agreement signed by BGMEA, GIZ and Particip, BGMEA master trainers, who were provided with a five-day ToT training, will train several factory committee members in the participating member factories to develop their capacities and help them function more efficiently even as the agreement aims to enable these committees to build and maintain a healthy relationship amongst management representatives and workers of each committee.
