In a move to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is already taking a toll on Bangladesh, both in terms of economy and lives lost, the Government has decided to prevent garment workers from travelling to their respective villages during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held on Thursday.
Following the meeting, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal announced that workers employed with readymade garment manufacturing units would not be allowed to leave their respective places of work during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
The decision to bar apparel workers from travelling to their ancestral places to celebrate the holy festival with the near and dear ones, has been taken to ensure garment workers are not infected with coronavirus, reportedly confirmed former Vice-President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporter Association (BKMEA),Mohammad Hatem, while speaking to the media.
