The holy festival of Eid-ul-Adha – expected on 31 July or 1 Aug – just round the corner, those into manufacturing of leather goods in Bangladesh have proposed a new method of deciding on what should be the price of rawhides of sacrificial animals.
According to leather and leather good exporters, who underlined that the concerned ministry (Commerce Ministry) is already preparing to decide and declare prices of rawhides, the best way to decide on the same would be to first analyse the export data of leather and leather goods exports in last 5-6 months and accordingly reach a reasonable conclusion on appropriate prices for rawhides.
Analysing minimum and maximum prices and minimum and maximum quantity from last 5-6 months, leather and leather goods export figures will give a decent idea to calculate and decide rawhide prices/square feet, maintained Chairman of The Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather Goods and Footwear Exporters’ Association (BFLLFEA), Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahin, while interacting with the media.
The BFLLFEA has written a letter in this direction to the Commerce Ministry underlining that hides from sacrificial animals reach the tanneries after changing many hands, subsequent to which the same is exported after maintaining different, proper process.
As such the letter underlined that the export statistics of last few months need to be taken into consideration.
