Four garment factories in Bangladesh have been honoured with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), recognising their commitment to environmentally sustainable practices. The certifications aim to promote energy efficiency, water conservation, and eco-friendly operations within the industry.
According to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), three of these factories achieved the prestigious platinum rating, while one received the gold rating. The factories awarded platinum LEED certification include Advance Attire Ltd’s factory in Manikganj, Amanat Shah Fabrics Ltd’s woven composite factory in Narsingdi, and Cotton Field BD Ltd’s production facility in Tongi, Gazipur. KM Apparel Knit Pvt Ltd, located in Ujampur, Dhaka, was awarded the gold-level LEED certification.
With these additions, Bangladesh’s total number of LEED-certified garment factories now stands at 248, comprising 105 platinum, 129 gold, 10 silver, and four basic-level certificates. Notably, Bangladesh ranks among the top countries globally in LEED-certified garment factories, holding 9 of the top 10 and 68 of the top 100 highest-rated facilities worldwide. This achievement underscores Bangladesh’s leadership in sustainable manufacturing within the global apparel industry.
