
In Mumbai, eight people were injured after a fire broke out due to an LPG cylinder explosion, at Santacruz West. According to fire brigade officials, the incident took place in ground plus one loft like structure, which had a steel frame and brick walls and was being used as a garment pressing unit. Locals alleged that there are several garment units operating illegally in tenements in the area.
It has been reported that two workers of the garment pressing unit were residing in it. As per media reports, the fire took place early in the morning when one of them started cooking and the cylinder started leaking.
The owner of the unit was staying somewhere else and was not present when the incident took place.
In another incident in Ludhiana, a fire broke out in a garment factory and goods worth lakhs were said to be gutted in the fire. It has been said that a short circuit has been cited as the reason behind the fire which engulfed the first two levels of the factory. It took four hours to fire fighters to douse the flame. It has been investigating whether the factory owner had fire safety arrangements in place or not.
It can be mentioned here that in the past two months there have been many incidents of fire in small garment units in various hubs of India.
