Gujarat-based material science company, AltMat and the global fashion sustainability and innovation platform, Fashion for Good, have jointly announced a collaboration to launch Altag® Fibre Club, which is an initiative created to expedite the process of adoption of future fibres generated from agricultural residue by large-scale commercial enterprises.
Speaking about this initiative, Katrin Ley, Managing Director at Fashion for Good said that this partnership is an important and faster step in efficiently bringing the innovative materials to the market and aims at expanding the usage of advanced materials, which hold strong commercial promise.
As per the Fashion for Good, this initiative seeks to benefit the companies and producers, as it will help the brands in collectively maintaining a specific order volume and additionally, will also work at reducing the risk and sharing of the financial responsibility. Designed on the similar lines as Fashion for Good and Circ’s project, Fibre Club, Altag® Fibre Club is also aimed at tackling the issues faced in implementing the material innovations, such as the compatibility with the existing processing methods, pricing, and scalability.
Additionally, this initiative is also built to address the materials challenge, which the fashion industry is increasingly subject to even with some of the existing materials already contributing to 91% of the industry’s emissions.
In this regard, Shikha Shah, AltMat CEO and founder explained that Altag® Fibre Club, goes beyond launching a fibre and instead is also focussed on creating a platform for the latest materials that are resilient and guarantee scalability.
Shah also mentioned that with this initiative, the company is actively trying to bridge a gap between all the players in the value chain, right from farm to fibre to fashion. As such, stakeholders including Jindal Textiles, Positive Materials, Maharaja Shree Umaid Mills, Arvind Ltd, Sutlej Textiles, Sweaters India and Industries, and other companies will step forward to adopt AltMat’s fibres in their existing process.
Post its debut at the Future Fabric Expo in London on 24th-25th June 2025, the Altag® Fibre Club will also be accessible to additional brands.
