Following the decision by the Bangladesh Government to allow all export-oriented factories to resume work, workers have started coming back to their respective workplaces from villages in thousands, giving rise to fears coronavirus cases could increase again.
Speaking to the media, Health Minister Zahid Maleque, reportedly, admitted that restarting manufacturing units amidst the continuing countrywide lockdown could result in a spurt in coronavirus cases even as he underlined that the Government needs to think about livelihoods as well.
…There was no room at all; they (workers) travelled shoulder-to-shoulder in ferries to return, reportedly, maintained the Health Minister adding he hoped such situations could be avoided in the future.
“Livelihoods are necessary; nevertheless, you need to be alive to work…,” Zahid Maleque, reportedly, added further.
