Amidst alleged continuing termination of garment workers, around 300 workers from seven to eight factories have reportedly demanded that authorities should stop termination of the workers and pay arrears and festival bonuses by 20th of the Ramadan.
This they demanded at a press conference at Ashulia Press Club in Savar on Friday.
Addressing the pressmen, President of Bangladesh Garments and Shilpa Sramik Federation Rafiqul Islam Sujon reportedly said that more than 500 workers were terminated from several factories in Ashulia in the last 15 days, adding that such a scenario is prevailing in more than 500 garment manufacturing units in and around Ashulia.
“The workers must be reinstated…,” demanded Rafiqul.
Speaking on the issue of termination, President of Bangladesh Textile and Garment Workers League (Ashulia unit) Sarowar Hossain alleged that such a ploy is being employed by factory owners so as to escape paying bonus to workers before the Eid.
The Bangladesh Garments Sramik Oikya Forum, Garments Sramik Karmachari Federation, Jago Bangladesh Garments Sramik Federation and Biplobi Sramik Federation, reportedly addressed the media in the press meet.
