The European Outdoor Group (EOG), a not-for-profit member association of European outdoor brands, manufacturers and retailers, has announced a significant restructuring of its leadership, signalling a renewed focus on strategic collaboration and sustainability within the outdoor industry. David Ekelund, co-founder of Swedish footwear brand Icebug, has been appointed president, leading a wave of new executive appointments.
Joining Ekelund are Andrew Shand of Helinox as vice president and Achim Loeffler of WL Gore & Associates as treasurer. The EOG has also bolstered its board with five new members: Giulia Delladio (La Sportiva), Irina Andorfer (Sport 2000), Nina Hajikhanian (Patagonia), Jonathan Petty (Helen of Troy), and Heiko Schaefer (Mammut Sports Group).
These changes, unveiled at the EOG’s Annual General Assembly, presided over by new director Christian Schneidermeier, come at a pivotal time for the organisation. Schneidermeier outlined the group’s agenda for the coming year, emphasising collaboration and progress despite the challenges faced by the industry.
Notably, the EOG has paused its OutDoor trade show for 2024, with 2025 dedicated to developing a revamped format for the event. However, the group will proceed with its strategic partnership with Messe Munich, hosting the inaugural Outdoor Impact Summit from 19th-20th May. This summit will concentrate on addressing critical sustainability challenges within the outdoor sector.
Schneidermeier highlighted the EOG’s resilience and growth, stating that the company has had significant changes in the past year but their association functioned well through it due to the ‘collective commitment to collaboration’. The new leadership and strategic direction underscore the EOG’s commitment to navigating industry changes and driving sustainable practices.
