
The Environment Social Governance team from British apparel retailer Primark met with the office-bearers of the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA). Their discussion centered around the steps the Tirupur knitwear sector has taken Environment Social Governance (ESG) sustainability.
Measures taken by the TEA include Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD), installation of Wind and Solar Power Generators to create less Carbon footprint, Planting of Trees, Conservation of Water bodies, Manufacturing of Garments using Recycled Fabrics and Pet Bottles.
For almost 25 years, Primark has sourced knitted clothing from Tiruppur. They currently place orders in the Tiruppur Cluster worth over Rs. 2,000 crores and collaborate with a number of vendors.
From the Primark team, Bee Ong, Director of Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability, Johanna Wilson, Head of Central Support, Abi Rushton, Head of Global ET&ES Audit Assurance, and Ruth Martin, Senior Ethical Trade Manager were present.
From the TEA, K.M. Subramaniam, President of TEA, V. Elangovan, Vice President, Kumar Duraiswamy, Joint Secretary of TEA and N. Thirukkumaran, General Secretary of TEA were present.
Ruth Martin gave a presentation outlining how PRIMARK is highly concerned about all ESG standards being met in all factories that make its clothing.
