Underlining Bangladesh Government’s concern about environmental pollution, a top official of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) has maintained that all economic zones in the country will have central effluent treatment plants or CETPs while also adding manufacturing units at the Bangabandhu Shilpa Nagar will have to have their own ETPs over and above the CETP.
According to reports, BEZA Executive Chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun, reportedly, maintained this at a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing programme with HSBC Bank Bangladesh in capital Dhaka recently.
The BEZA Executive Chairman further, reportedly, added that the CETP project for the port city Chittagong-based Bangabandhu Shilpa Nagar in Chattogram has already been approved even as the Government is also installing other ETPs to ensure waste treatment measures in economic zones so as to curb industrial pollution.
Shaikh Yusuf Harun also added that apart from the CETP, factories in the Bangabandhu Shilpa Nagar will have to have their own ETPs as well.
