Luxury e-commerce platform Mytheresa announced on Wednesday a strategic five-year partnership with global express delivery leader DHL for its new GoGreen Plus service.
Over the next five years, Mytheresa plans to invest several million euros in the GoGreen Plus service, making it the largest customer commitment to this programme in Europe for DHL Express.
The partnership aims to use sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) rather than conventional jet fuel, which should lower carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions in international shipments. Specifically, roughly 27,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions linked to Mytheresa’s overseas shipments are expected to be reduced as a result of the agreement during the course of the following five years.
“Based on this unique long-term agreement with DHL Express on the use of SAF, we will be able to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions per order shipped,” said Sebastian Dietzmann, COO of Mytheresa.
DHL Express introduced GoGreen Plus last year. Large contracts with important suppliers like bp, Neste, and World Energy, who make SAF from alternative raw materials with a sustainable energy profile, enable the programme.
Given that the air network accounts for almost 90% of DHL Group’s carbon footprint, this endeavour is in line with the company’s goal of attaining net-zero emissions by 2050.
“Mytheresa is committed to working with us to make international express transportation more sustainable. I am delighted that we are able to offer the GoGreen Plus service by using SAF in our international network,” added John Pearson, CEO of DHL Express.
Most recently, in October, Mytheresa opened a new state-of-the-art distribution center at Halle/Leipzig Airport in Germany, backed by a partnership with DHL.
