
The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and the embassy of Sweden in Dhaka have, reportedly, come together for a project, aiming to facilitate a green transition in Bangladesh’s garments industry, even as Executive Director of the CPD Fahmida Khatun and head of development cooperation at the Swedish embassy Christine Johansson, reportedly, signed an agreement in this direction recently.
As per reports which cited Christine Johansson, the main aim of the project is to facilitate climate neutral growth and create productive employment opportunities for women and youths in the country even as highlighting the project’s importance, the CPD Executive Director, reportedly, underlined ensuring employment for women and youths alongside a green transition are crucial for sustainable economic growth.
Meanwhile, as per a press communique issued in this direction which cited the head of development cooperation at the Swedish embassy Christine Johansson, a range of social interventions will be made as part of the project to secure workers’ rights and improve their livelihoods even as she underlined that Sweden was committed to enhancing the competitiveness of Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector through improved environmental and social compliance.
