
Law Minister Anisul Huq has recently reiterated it was the obligation of the factory owners to ensure workplace safety.
This he reportedly underlined while addressing a discussion at Dhaka’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium while adding ensuring workplace safety had become crucial for sustainable development and it is obligatory for factory owners to ensure workers’ safety at the workplace.
The discussion was reportedly organised by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, which witnessed the participation of top Government officials, who reportedly stressed the importance of workplace safety so as to meet global standards.
Addressing the discussion, the State Minister for Labour and Employment, Monnujan Sufian, reportedly explained the different initiatives from the Government, including amending and modernising the labour law and labour rules, pension schemes and so on while adding these laws would apply to the workers working in the export processing zones and went on to further add that the labour information management system project listed all formal and informal sector workers in a single database.
