
The Government has recently released the gazette detailing the announced minimum wage for garment workers, establishing the monthly pay at Taka 12,500 and streamlining the number of grades from seven to five.
The Minimum Wage Board, operating under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, has invited objections from the public within 14 days of the gazette’s publication for any necessary revisions.
The reduction of garment worker grades from seven to five, a demand voiced by both worker and owner representatives to the board established on 9th April, is reflected in the gazette.
The updated wage structure will be implemented starting 1st December, and workers will receive salaries under this new framework starting in January.
As outlined in the gazette, a fifth-grade or entry-level worker will receive Taka 12,500 as the minimum monthly salary, comprising Taka 6,700 as basic salary, Taka 3,350 as house rent, Taka 750 as medical allowance, Taka 450 as conveyance, and Taka 1,250 as food allowance.
Workers in the fourth grade will receive Taka 13,025, with Taka 7,050 as basic salary, Taka 3,525 as house rent, Taka 750 as medical allowance, Taka 450 as conveyance, and Taka 1,250 as food allowance.
Third-grade workers are entitled to a monthly minimum wage of Taka 13,550, with Taka 7,400 as basic salary, Taka 3,700 as house rent, Taka 750 as medical allowance, Taka 450 as conveyance, and Taka 1,250 as food allowance.
Second-grade workers will receive a minimum salary of Taka 14,150, including Taka 7,800 as basic salary, Taka 3,900 as house rent, Taka 750 as medical allowance, Taka 450 as conveyance, and Taka 1,250 as food allowance.
First-grade workers are slated to receive Taka 14,750 as the minimum monthly wage, consisting of Taka 8,200 as basic salary, Taka 4,100 as house rent, Taka 750 as medical allowance, Taka 450 as conveyance, and Taka 1,250 as food allowance.
Apprentice workers’ gross salary is set at Taka 9,875, encompassing Taka 4,950 as basic salary, Taka 2,475 as house rent, Taka 750 as medical allowance, Taka 450 as conveyance, and Taka 1,250 as food allowance.
