Japanese sports multinational ASICS has entered into a strategic alliance with Switzerland-based bluesign Technologies to ensure an increase in using sustainable chemicals and materials in all its products.
Since its inception in the year 2000, the bluesign system has been adopted by prominent textile and accessory makers across the world for a sustainable textile production solution.
The partnership is expected to enable the Japanese sports brand to use the bluesign assessment tools (blueguide and bluefinder.) for chemical management throughout its supply chain.
blueguide provides ASICS with an accessible database of trims, fabrics and accessories that are approved by bluesign. These are produced using sustainable chemicals at certified factories.
On the other hand, bluefinder helps suppliers with an access to a database of chemicals that have been duly approved by bluesign after thoroughly analysing risks and threats.
Joji Yoshimoto, GM, CSR Sustainability Department, ASICS, feels that this partnership will help the company in achieving its goal of closely collaborating with its suppliers to ensure that the sustainability goals are achieved.
Among the sustainability goals set for 2020, one of the main goals of ASICS is to increase the scope of the supply chain by including trim and material suppliers as well.
The company believes that by collaborating with bluesign it will be able to focus on restricting hazardous chemicals that its suppliers can use in the production process.
