According to Sustainability Survey Report 2023 by The Yarn Bazaar and Wazir Advisors, almost 80 per cent of significant players in the Indian textile sector have already embraced some type of sustainable production practises.
According to a press release, the analysis examines important Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concerns and shows the enormous momentum stakeholders along the textile value chain are demonstrating toward embracing sustainability. Realising that increasing production alone is insufficient has prompted a focus on sustainable practises that are in line with the environmental ESG pillar.
The majority of the businesses that participated in the study indicated a rise in the proportion of sustainable products in their portfolios year over year and expressed a desire to keep making this transition in the future. The report states that between 50 per cent and 75 per cent of respondents’ portfolios presently include sustainable products. Similarly to this, 25 per cent of respondents said they now sell more sustainable products than 75 per cent.
The paper said that as the industry’s drive to circularity develops, cotton recycling has significantly increased alongside conventional polyester recycling. A more sustainable and circular economy is being supported by integrated players and large-scale spinning mills that are actively investigating ways to recycle waste for the creation of circular textiles.
The potential for recovering polyester from bottles and turning it into textile materials in India is predicted to reach or surpass 1,600 kilo tonnes per year by 2030, at a CAGR of 4 per cent, according to the report. This highlights the increased emphasis on sustainable practises in the textile industry and shows a major rise in recycling infrastructure and capacities in the nation.
