The global fashion retail group, Inditex has collaborated with Jeanologia, a sustainable textile technology in order to work on an industrial air system named ‘Air Fiber Washer.’ The new collaborative project will be presented at the textile technology exhibition, ITMA.
The mechanism of this machine works on removing microfibres during the process of garment production while also limiting the shedding of microfibres in domestic use. The air fibre washer allows nearly 60 percent reduction in microfibre shedding by using sir instead of any other energy source such as thermal or water.
The machine can hold up to 325 Kg of microfibre a year depending on the type of fabric and machine condition. The machine consists of a ‘containment bag’ which collects the extracted microfibre which is then used for recycling.
Javier Losada, chief sustainability officer at Inditex, said that it is necessary to “Drive innovative solutions to address industry challenges, such as the release of microfibres. This project with Jeanologia is an example of how we can collaborate with other industries to limit our water impacts right from the manufacturing phase.”
